Rockband Network, the new iTunes store?
« on: July 17, 2009, 12:15:34 PM »

Harmonix is about to release Rockband Network.

It will allow anyone to convert master tapes into a Rockband file, upload it to a store and let anyone download it. You get a cut of the sales as well.

I guess it's a completely new delivery format and platform for musicians, no matter how silly it might seem at first.

The only people who are going to make big money off of this deal are lawyers. As soon as tracks are rejected by the Peer Review Group the lawsuit frenzy for biased/unfair business practices will begin.

Gaming is huge. I wonder how a nice celtic jig or polka song would do in this setting? I've got a few.

I don't know, this may be something.

Let's see where it goes.

This COULD be brilliant.

Unfortunately there will be a lot of fuzz and mist to filter through.
The standard of the search engine will be the critical factor I think.

What if they get all ten million of those songs nobody has ever downloaded?

So far they've sold 50 million copies of 700 songs.

Early adopters with their own unique material may be able to cash in on this.
