No mango trees here but the prune tree is almost falling over it's so loaded, the cherry, and apple season has already passed and we're looking forward to a good grape season.

We haven't taken things as far as the people featured in the video, but we have almost 5 hectares and there are a quiet a few fruits and vegetables that we never have to buy, (thanks to my wife of course) onions, garlic, tomatoes, carrots, melon, potatoes, pumpkins, string beans, strawberries, blackberries, etc, etc.

The second picture shows the smaller of our two vegetable gardens, we saw a snake hanging around the other garden so I'm staying away for the moment...Yeah, I'm a wuss when it comes to snakes.

Here is a photo of the critter that has taken up residence in the garden, best I can tell it's a Western whip snake, (might as well be a Cobra for all I care), this local resident is well over a meter long and moves like a bolt of lightening.

Believe me, I was not this close when I took the photo, credit goes to my Canon Powershot G10.

According to the article in the link they live for 20 years and are territorial!

Is that like a raisin bush?

Technically these are plums, prunes are dried plums, in France both the fresh and the dried fruit are called prunes.  There are several hundred varieties of plums that are used to make prunes but the most popular variety grown in the US is called the French Prune.

My avocado tree is so full, and the fruit getting so big and heavy, that is is hanging down into my driveway, and blocking the entrance.

But I hate to cut off that limb, and lose several nice avocados.

Another fruit I can't enjoy in Europe or the US, at best the avocados here taste very bland.

..."Lose"???

If they're ripe, they'll never be 'lost'. -If they're not ripe, then... er...

Invest in some shorter springs for the Lancer, or have the driveway lowered. (Letting the tire pressures down works as a 'quick-fix', too!)  Very Happy

Or pull out a couple of Jeff's mic stands to prop up the branches.

I vote for cutting a totally new driveway, that way the tree doesn't have to be disturbed at all.

That's only half a days work for a D9 and you wont have to worry about this problem again...

Actually, I have already propped up the limb with a long pole (do that every year).

But this time there are so many avocados on the limb, it is lower than ever.

And the fruits are only half sized, so the worst is yet to come.

They even hit the centre of the windscreen of the Carlsson SLK, so no lowering is going to help.

Will post a photo later.

I don't know of any here, but there might be. Chris B often has it at his table, but he may bring it in from Jamaica.

If you get the chance in the future I implore you to try the the Jamaican national dish; Ackee and salted cod fish, that is if you have never eaten it before.

Sounds great...

,,,raw ackees and the inner red tissue of the ripe ackee arils contain potent alkaloid toxins (Hypoglycins A and B) which can produce a syndrome of vomiting, seizures, and fatal hypoglycemia known as Jamaican vomiting sickness....When picked before it is fully ripe, the fruit contains a chemical that limits the body’s ability to release the backup supply of glucose that is stored in the liver. That supply is essential because once the body uses up the sugar immediately available in the bloodstream an event that usually occurs several hours after eating it depends on this glucose to keep blood sugar levels normal until the next meal. Without it, blood sugar plunges. Enough people have died from eating unripened ackee that it is illegal to bring the fruit into the U.S.

Terry, what's the specs on that Carlsson, -I've never seen their R170 SLK...

-My wife has a 3.5 R171 (same colour... looks reel purrrdy!) though not the Carlsson (more's the pity!).
