Mastering for DVD question. Please help.
« on: June 17, 2009, 04:31:21 PM »

Hey guy.

I have just finished recording and producing a live concert dvd. Got a great master back. I gave the audio to the video guy and realized they have their faders set a -6db in final cut pro. They say they have a good reason for this but nothing that really makes sense to me since when we tried it at 0.0db there was no distortion. Is there any reason the should not set their faders at unity? I hate to sacrifice 6db of level.

Thanks

There's no reason to reduce the level on a DVD release. Just make sure the Dolby and/or DTS encode is clean. PCM streams can peak at 0.
