send material back for fixes or deal with it?
« on: June 17, 2009, 12:16:54 PM »

How many ME here will ask the client to do their own fixes for obvious issues or will you just do your  best with it as-is?

I find myself very often asking the client if they can do adjustments on their side. I like open communications and the final outcome is more important to me than just doing things quick to get paid.

Depends on the source. If a client mixed their own album and either aren't sure if the mixes are OK or simply hadn't heard a problem until listening here I'll offer mix advice. Most clients are very happy to have constructive feedback and the results after their remix are usually way better than anything I could have done in the mastering studio.

If it's coming from a commercial studio and an experienced mix engineer then I usually assume what I hear is what they intended and go with it.
