Sourcing AMS-Neve module retention screws
« on: May 09, 2009, 06:43:09 PM »

I am in need of a few of the captive retention screws for a Neve VR console.  These are the screws the module puller attaches to.  The part number is FC10400, but unfortunately AMS-Neve is out of stock and their supplier requires a rather large minimum count.

Any help finding some of these would be greatly appreciated!

Have you contacted AMS Neve in Burnley, UK?
The 88RS uses the same captive screws.
Installation requires a rivet gun with a custom bit.

Yes, I contacted them directly and they said they were out of stock and they had to place a large minimum order with long lead time.

Strange they wouldn't have stock if the 88RS uses them, but I'm guessing any stock they have is dedicated to production.

You know that's interesting you mention Neil.  Last year I e-mailed him about some switches and he responded with a request for the serial number of my console.  I replied with the number and asked for a quote on 20 pieces of the Li-Con illuminated switch used for the Cut and Solo functions on the input modules.  He never answered my request even after I resent the information twice.

Local hardware store has several sizes of those fasteners.

You *DO* mean the spring-pop-up thingies with the screw-slot, which you push down and turn to tighten... -right?

I'm not certain of precisely WHICH size is the AMS-Neve size, -if you can send me some accurate measurements, I can buy whatever you need and send them to you. -Haven't checked the price, but they're usually not unreasonable.

Keith

PS: You do know that these are attached like 'crimp-rivets', -right? -There's some sort of tool which is needed to 'spread' the inner edge; like a 'cone-spreader'... -Presumably you have a way of attaching them?

Yes those are the parts I'm looking for.  I have found several variations of these at the fastener distributors, but none with the length and screw/shoulder OD required. Shoulder size and height is important or the module puller won't work.

What hardware store do you have locally that carries these?  I am aware that a tool is required to set the captive flange on the screw.

-It's a one-off local store which has a few, -I suspect left over from a one-off order.

Dimensions? Preferably with a picture against a scale-grid or similar?

I have a couple of broken ones and I will pull a module and get some pics up.  I'm sort of backed up right now, but I can get out my caliper and post the dimensions when I get a few minutes.

Thanks for helping out!

No problem... They may of course not have the exact size, but we can certainly look and see!
