Spec Eng/Mix job
« on: August 06, 2009, 06:08:08 PM »

Hey guys I got some buddies that I am going to record/mix a 10-11 song CD for them , they are poor as usual but I want to propose a spec deal to them ( they are mod bluegrass and have potential for some TV/film )

Does anybody have a basic spec deal available that I could get a copy of ?
Also what amount of points 5-7 % ??

Thanks
Buzz

I would stick to 3% maybe 4.... Any more than that and you may end up making more than the artist.. If needed I'll explain the numbers, but it will have be tomorrow... I'm on my iPhone ... I can send you a spec boiler plate tomorrow as well if you don't have one by then Smile. Ps: of course you will also bill them FULL studio rate to be recouped off sales.

as usual with a spec deal, 'spec not to get paid.......

do it cause you love it, not cause you need the cash.

good luck!

Rick, would it be by any chance possible you send me a copy as well?

I'd love to see what a generic spec deal looks like - to be honest I haven't been thinking of going this direction so far. But having recently turned down a couple of projects where the bands didn't have funds this is something I should really look into! Certain things might not apply with EU / German policies but nevertheless...

thanks, Marten

Hi Marten,  No sweat... check your PMs Smile

I should mention to you and Buzz that this is my one page "amongst buddies" contract... I also have a proper contract that is many pages of confusing legal language ... but that one tends to scare people
