I'm posting for a friend.

He's looking for combination 8 channel converter (A/D) with built in preamps.

Are there such beasts? and if so in the $1000 - $1800 price range?

Wow, very cool. I wasn't aware of the ASP008. Looks to be a nice feature set. How do you like it. Did you consider the Presonus or Focusrite Octopre when you purchased the Audient? Who sells those in the US and what price range are we takling?

The Focusrite ISA 428 has 4 good mic pres and an option card for 8 A/D channels of decent sounding (according to some reports on rec.audio.pro) on ADAT, AES, and TDIF for about that much money.  I think they go for about $1500 + $500 for the card.

I heard all of the 8-channel cheapo pres in the market at the time, I like the Presonus M80 and MP20, but the rest of their pres is ho-hum, the Octopre is ho-hum as well (But not as bad as people make it to be) and so on...

Having worked on an ASP8024 box I already knew the pres, the ASP008 has a similar design and similar sound to the console pres, a tad more snappy if you wish.

How do I like it? If I need clean I go for the ASP008 (Note, my definition of clean is not Mackie/Focusrite sterile and flat-sounding clean it's transparent with a nice flattering character), I got plenty of pres to cover my character needs
