As I browse images from yesterdays "tea parties"  I see a lot of pasty white faces.  Not one black, hispanic, asian, or dare I say even Jewish looking mug among them- and yes, Brad, more that a few anti - Obama signs.  At a time when taxes are being lowered for most people and it's clear that government programs are needed, and therefore need to be funded, to fix some major problems that we face, one has to wonder what motivates people to protest against their own interests?
I suspect this "movement" is really being used to cloak something else altogether-

Racism.  I think these people are angry & scared at having a black man in the White House.

Wow.  Again with the race card.

So where does this spectacular observation lead us?

These events, heavily advertised on Fox, looked like the dwindling McCain/Palin rallies at the end of the campaign.

People are protesting the tax rate that has been in place throughout the Bush years.

Go figure.

It could also be that they're afraid of someone smarter than they are in the White House.

No question he's a smart guy.  Very smart.  But SMART doesn't guarantee good policy.

Especially when we are passing bills so extensive that no one from either side of the isle can find the time to read them before they sign them into law.

If that doesn't matter to you, then you are intellectually dishonest....and there really is no point in a discussion.

Who read the entire Patriot Act?

It's Congress' job to read the bills before them, even if they have to stay awake for 24 hours on the weekend.

Congress is full of lawyers, staff and all sorts of people who's job it is to read the bill and find the issues.

To use that someone didn't read it is a lame excuse and means that someone isn't doing their job. On BOTH sides.

Could be that, too.  Which is, of course, incredibly stupid.  I for one would hope that the person who designs the brakes on my car, and the one coming towards me at 80mph, is smarter about the physics of friction & material wear & heat dissapation than I am.  I'd hope that the guy performing surgery on me or my family members is a lot smarter than me.  And you'd think that the guy we elect to run our country should be among the smartest of all of us.

Lest we end up in the movie "Idiocracy".

It's just something I see that concerns me.  Racism & bigotry didn't just suddenly go away, and I think Rove & Beck & Hannity are more than happy to stir them up.

We've seen the results of stupid.  I'll take a chance on smart.

Voting on a bill without reading it is malfeasance.  But every legislator was voted into office by constituents who are ultimately responsible for what their representatives do and don't do.

What does that have to do with Obama?

That's great. Saying Obama's top rate is lower than Reagan isn't quite fair (look at the end of Reagan's term), but by historic standards, it's not high. And it's pretty hard to argue that a shockingly high top rate under Eisenhower hurt the economy.

And remember, this is only about what the richest of the rich pay.

What is a bit scary to me as that right wing radio, Fox News and the GOP nuts need an enemy.  Terrorists - didn't stick in the election, Socialist - didn't stick, etc.

But now they seem to have openly declared the "U.S." an enemy as long is a black Democrat is in office from day one. Take America Back.  From what? Reality?

This is some screwed up stuff going on here.

All I'm saying is....look...

I can give you a laundry list of world leaders who were very, very smart - and some of them have led the world into disastrous situations.

It doesn't take an idiot to do that.

You SEEM to be saying it's OK that our congress passes legislation that they don't read...and that we get what we deserve because we voted them into office.

On one hand, you are correct that we are responsible.  And on the other, we have the right to protest representatives who are no longer representing.

But to throw up your hands and say you're ready to blindly give someone a chance because he is "smart" (which - let's face it - by that you mean he's not George Bush)...well...does that make YOU smart?

Aren't YOU smart?  Shouldn't YOU be miffed about congress and their lack of ability to take responsibility for their actions?  Wouldn't a smart, responsible person try to do something about it if indeed it were malfeasance?

Please.  Don't be so narrow minded to think that these protests are directed at any one party, one congress, or one president.

We each in the US (unless we live in DC) have 4 reps.

The Congressperson from your district.

The 2 Senators from your state.

The President of the United States.

Anybody see a correlation?

James, why do you assume that no one in the House or Senate has read the legislation that they're voting on?

That's how we know its manufactured, despite Brad's friends. Why are they protesting now instead of when this tax rate went into effect? They felt better about their taxes being used for war on Iraq, instead of to hold the remains of our economy together apparently. And the program that is using those taxes was devised by the Bush administration. So why is the ire being aimed at Obama? Where were they in October?

So what are we left with? Partisan bullshit, or stupidity, or racism.

I believe you Brad, but your friends haven't thought this through and are yelling at the wrong people. And the rest...
