Budget Amps....help???
« on: March 29, 2009, 10:21:45 AM »

Hi,
Im new here and looking for some adivce...
Im also pretty new too this stuff and still young so bare with me..

Im just about too take purchase of a new stack of speakers,i am now in the process of amping it and have been looking around for something reliable,as we play alot of crammed gigs and amps get hot etc....

I was looking at peavey amps (i know what you will all say im sure but came with strong recommendation from a good sound engineer i know) as they are professional but not too expensive,i also like the reliablity,you can check them down some stairs,plg them in and still work,ive even seen them shorted out with a screwdriver across the back and then turned it on afterwards....im not into punishing amps but ive seen it done!

This is what i have;
4 x Subs = 600 watts each @ 8 ohms each  - therefore you will need: 1,200 Watts per Channel ( per side )

4 x Mids = 300 watts each @ 8 ohms each  - therefore you will need: 600 Watts per Channel ( per side )

Got highs and amps too power them already....

I was looking at;

Peavey PV CS4000
Peavey PV2600

Both would run suffieciently and give me head room too add a couple more subs at some point....

i sent that too my resident sound wholesaler and he recommended me these....

Mistral 6000 - For subs
2.4  2 x 750w @ 4 ohms

The Mistral 6000 is apparently an Italian design, made in Taiwan.  I'd be concerned about the level of support they can provide.  While I've never been a big fan of the earlier Peaveys, their new stuff is pretty good, and very reliable.
