Luther Burger
« on: March 20, 2009, 12:37:28 PM »

This is possibly the most unhealthy food combination I've ever seen:

That's one of the grossest things I've ever seen.  It's amazing to me what passes for "food" in some people's- make that an unfortunate majority's- minds.

"Two original Krispy Kreme doughnuts, 4 slices of bacon and two 1/4 lb. beef patties round out this very sweet Luther Burger."

but then, they fell upon a troublesome culinary conundrum ...

"The glaze was really tasty and worked well with the bacon but the caramelness of the doughnuts took over.  Balance is so key when assembling a burger and for some reason we just couldn’t get it right."

Indeed.

This particular burger falling a tad short of the requisite gram weight quota of nutritionally-valueless-yet-glutinously-gut-clogging starch obtained from the conventional burger bun to properly complement the several bazillion grams each of animal fat and refined disaccharide, balance must be obtained by novel and innovative means, such as, e.g. ...

"a dijon and brown sugar glaze on salmon and the combo works really well."

The authors didn't state whether they piled this on top of the dubious affair or just alternated bites with it, but certainly, a 'balance' of sorts was achieved.

No question, this does qualify as "adventure"; in whitewater terms a 'Class IV' gastronomic ride.

But I've gone a bit soft these last few years, so I'll stick with spelunking and Flannery O'Connor stories for my thrills.

There's also a hotdog using a Twinkie as the bun. Isn't it painful? Makes me want to eat a salad.

For sheer lack of health per ounce, you have to head to Snook, TX, where you can sample the specialty at Sodolak's Original Country Inn:

Chicken fried bacon

Here's a new one. It looks like someone misread the 1/4 pounder burger to mean one four pounder, but here it is;

Nowhere else in the world would people even think of the culinary atrocities seen on this thread.

I'm sorry, Foie Gras?

Don't underestimate how far human beings in ANY country will go for the enjoyment of eating, provided they have the means.

The fact that the United States had the open land to sustain cattle farming on a large scale had a big influence on America's beef consumption...  But then Argentina eats more beef per capita than we do.

Or am I simply missing that it's fun to take shots at America?

FWIW a lot of that land was forest before Europeans came.

Oh, I like that.

But never saw a foie gras sandwich with 1/2 lb of it.

But a little goblet of it on top of a dollar-coin-sized toast, topped by a thin slice of strawberry, a droplet of passion fruit pulp or a little bit (just a little bit) of caviar, together with some good champagne...  hmmm...  half a dozen of those and I'm satisfied.

One thing is to be able to go to a Brazilian rodizio churrascaria with an extremely varied buffet and amazing beef being served; something else entirely were the roman orgies with their vomitoria or the gross things we saw referenced on this thread.

Oh I love beef. sincerely. and I like it rare.
I am not Argentinian, but I have been there; they do eat a lot of meat but not in the gross fashions I've seen in the linked pics/sites.
