Where do I sign up for the war? I am a commando and I'm seeking for a capable unit.

This is awesome.  It will be even more effective than the war on drugs!  Remember how people used to be able to get drugs before they started the war on them and now you can't?  Cool stuff!
Twisted Evil

Nice freeware though.

If everybody here just stays laughing and making jokes, probably nothing can grow seriously in this subject. Crying or Very Sad

This effort is similar to turnmeup.org, right ?

Frankly, I applaud the idea and the effort.

What Cass said.

Frankly, as much there is the choice of NOT making your record brick-walled (many of my customers seem to value this and I'm putting out pretty sensible levels in many cases), the choice of making a stupid loud record should be as valid.

Making everything loud is stupid. Making something loud can actually work if it suits the material. I usually tell my customers what I think of the levels and try to leave it open. But if the sound benefits from being a solid square wave, I'll do that. I'm not fixed to one RMS value.

My name is Jaakko and sometimes I'm an audio violator.

This is the next step after turn me up, a quantifiable way to define dynamics. It's still academic but it'll be interesting to see how it relates to the real world.

One real possibility is selling premium high-res files in addition to regular slammed music. I think trying to make one size fit all is a lot of the excessive distortion problem.

The only problem with this is the probability of a lot of "high-res" distortion.

Seriously,  I think all the distortion is coming from the mix engineers and the mastering engineers are getting a bad rap.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

My worry is that this only results in more number-crunching, making people estimate sound simply by numbers.

Just like they do when posting screen shots of Adobe Audacity.
