It's not "as if" in any way shape or form... it absolutely is. 40 million years of evolution at work here people. The biological imperative of the male is to impregnate as many females as possible. It really is just that simple.
Deeply rooted instincts leaking out around society's attempts to suppress and/or redirect them are at the very heart of many of today's problems.
Completely monogamous "till death do us part" relationships made perfect evolutionary sense... when the average life expectancy was 35.
