Michael Mcdonald Stuff
« on: February 18, 2009, 02:51:31 PM »

Hi,

I have just bought Michael Mcdonald Ultimate Collection ALbum.
Very rare to find it in Brazil.

Mastering credits: remastering by Dan Hersch & Bill Inglot at DigiPrep.

I have never heard about them. Nice album. However, it is the first time I see a ceiling of -0.6 (opening song).
Is there a technical reason for this? Other songs are much older, a few from 1976.

Ain't no Mountain High, produced by Simon Climie, originally from Motown Album Hits Vol.1.

Also, who has mastered his other albums, Like Motown 1, 2 and the new one?

Any info is wellcomed.

Michael Mcdonald, Seal and Lisa Stansfield are my three top pop/soul artists.

Good ol' Bill Inglot doesn't have much of a technical background but he remastered Rhino's whole Tape Library (so he has a TON of mastering hours....) That's maybe what your listening to, the re release from those sessions. Digiprep is a studio here in Los Angeles/Eagle Rock, somewhat low end. The mastering engineer there works at BLISTERING LEVELS!!! Uncomfortable.... So maybe that's the other name. This is all the info I have so hoped I helped a little. Hope to not offend either one just telling the truth, they are more skilled than me in plenty of ways

I heard a cut or two of new Michel Mc.  It was SQUASHED almost beyond belief.

No breathing room at all.

Not sure if this is the one you are talking about though.

I just ran into Dan Hersch's name the other day looking up the mastering credit for The Band's second album. Fun stuff.
