"Don't You Forget About Me" was supposedly written for Billy Idol, who didn't end up doing it, for whatever reason.

actually it was first pitched to bryan ferry and roxy music and THEY turned it down.

And the A's should have been huge.

THAT is true

great live band.  opened a fair amount of shows for them back in the day. always thought it was funny (and telling) that at the height of their punky/new wave popularity, they would soundcheck by doing ripping versions of jeff beck tunes. next thing you know, rick is playing with roger waters Smile

Rick met my longtime friend Peter Wood (who co-wrote Year Of The Cat) when I brought both in to play on Cyndi's first record.

And we did many things after that that included them both, and they became friends as well, naturally.

Peter played with Pink Floyd for years as the second 'hidden' synth player (when they had the second band up on the wall for example).

so the Roger/Rick connection was thusly made.

The Moody Blues still perform Knights in White Satin as if they just released it last month.  No way are they coasting or going through the motions.  Some people just musically mean what they say and say what they mean.

I saw Beck about a year after Mellow Gold came out, and he and his band played "Loser" like their lives depended on it.  It was impressive, especially since, let's face it, "A Day in the Life" it ain't.

But instead of doing the too-cool-for-my-stupid-hit routine, he just dove into it.
