Wunder Audio PAfour
« on: January 23, 2009, 02:56:23 PM »

Anyone else try this guy out? http://www.wunderaudio.com/Pafourproduct.html
Our studio owner just picked one up (they are based here in Austin) and I'm going to be running it through it's paces on my next session (i'll report back), maybe post some samples. Thought I'd check to see if anyone else had info to share.

I am interested in Wunder myself for their preamps, & preamp/EQ, and their Wunderbar console thing. I understand they are a Neve 1073 clone on stereoroids. I'm currious about their tube microphones also. So I am looking forward to your reports.

Thanks

To my understanding it is not a 1073 clone but inspired by the input modules in a quite special custom Neve console. Yes, the micpre modules with eq (same pre in the pafour) are compatible with classic Neve frames so you can drop them in  but the similarities to a 1073 stop there if I´m not mistaken.

I had some Wunder pre/eqs .they're kinda warm fairly clean.
they sound nothing like a 1073 and had nothing to do w/ the Neve company as far as I know.
lots of headroom/gain.DI was pretty good
had some tech problems with them though.mike fixed em but a couple sessions got halted because of it. Evil or Very Mad
the eq is fairly sweet,broad..pretty ok.
Quite liked em on overheads

they were cloned froma custom console made for John Paul Jones [of Led Zep] home studio ..No zep stuff was ever recorded on it though.
in fact I don't know of any commercial recordings made on that console

Correct. The Allotrope desk. One off and Mike still owns it.
