Going up against an orginal U47 and a wunder
« on: January 14, 2009, 10:21:53 PM »

Mic maker Ben Sneesby. BeesNeez mics

the thread is sort of convoluted with his James and Jade series mics

this one is the "Arabella"

1350.00 US

He is putting it up against an original in great shape U47 and a wunder in the studio soon.

Ben is around here and can speak to this mic himself. but here is a quote about it from him

Hi Guys, The mic will be named after my 3 year old daughter "The Arabella".

I had no plans in building this style of microphone but after many requests, i have decided to make it part of the lineup. I will be posting some pics this week.

The Arabella will have a Telefunken EF12 (just like the Wagner u47w and the Wunder CM7), a K47 Capsule and a Cinemag 2461NICO Transformer (same as the BV8).

I am not designing this mic to be a 47 clone. It will share a common heritage as far as components go but it will have the added feature mutiple patterns, pad and a sibilance roll off switch.

The Arabella will be priced at $1350USD, a far cry from the 7 - 8k being asked for other microphones using these same components!

As always, i guarantee it will stand proud amongst any of the clones, if not you can have your money back!!.

Cheers

and

if you go here to post #138 there is a pic of the insides

http://www.gearslutz.com/board/new-product-alert/339789-bees neez-studio-series-jade-5.html

and

a little info on the diff between it and a pearlman TM-1

differences and similarity to the Pearlman TM1.

The Arabella Uses the same Tube and Capsule as the TM1 but that is the only similarity.

The Arabella has a different circuit allowing for 9 polar patterns, 10db pad and a sibilance roll off (the pearlman has a roll off similar to this though the Arabella's is not as agressive, it's a personal preference thing). The Arabella is also housed in a much smaller body as i am not a huge fan of huge mics (again a personal thing).

The other Major difference between the two is the Arabella has a Cinemag 2461NICO Output transformer (huge in size and in sound)....(+24db huge) and i also use amazing NOS German Capacitors.

I do want to say that dave is a great friend of mine, I am not trying to steal his thunder, the Pearlman is a great mic, i wasn't actually planning to build a mic with the EF12 but alas, i have fallen to the pressure and decided what the hell.

The Arabella may at times have a waiting period as the tubes are getting rare and harder to find.

I haven't built this mic as a clone, it has many other modern features thus increasing it's usability.

Let me know what you think of the guts.....

cheer
s

and last but not least, putting his money where his mouth is

I Just got off the phone with Phil Punch at Electric Avenue Studios, will be up against his U47 and his Wagner U47W which incidently is an early one with an original kk47 neumann capsule.

Can't wait.

I will hopefully be able to secure a female vocalist as well as myself and some accoustic guitar. It should do for starters.

I just like this guys story

I'm sorry if I'm a bit dense but I don't understand your post.  Are you telling us about the mic or about some sort of shoot-out or...

Sorry!

see Barry, I was so consumed with trying to make it clear i confused everyone, and myself after re reading what all i posted

i was trying to only post about a new mic, that with its price i thought should be in this section, that was going to be tested against an original U47 and a wunder

hmmmm

so i guess it comes across as both

but my intention was to introduce an interesting new mic at a certain price point

i think i am confusing this again

i have a tendency to do this, so to sum up clearly

"Here is a new mic"!

 k47 clone = $150
ef14 tube = $150
cinemag 2461 xfrm = $100
mic body = 100 ?
power supply = 100 ?
shock mount  = 50 ?

I dont see how a shoot out will even come close to a good U47

or are all vintage neumann owners chumps .

Just to let you know, i hand make each Capsule, they are not a $150 clone capsule, there is also much more to a mic than just the parts you have listed.

the proof is in the pudding, you'll be able to listen to some samples that will posted after next weeks sessions against a perfect U47 and a U47w

cheers

hey if it sounds good .
Im not trying to be rude .
Id like to hear one of your capsules . If pearlman switched to yours there must be a good reason .

After looking at your microphones , I am curios now .
I think its exciting to have manufactures like you and pearlman
making affordable products that have some magic like the old Mics ,
with the new thiersch M7 , Dale Ulan M7 and your K47 , and MBHO capsules ,  there seems to be hope .

I like that Ben posts pics of the insides right up front and gives a life time guarantee

and is very accessible

if he is good enough to have worked on the pearlman mics i would say these, especially at this price point, are really worth a look

hi andy, i have shipped 7 mics to the UK so far.

Shipping including insurance is 130usd.  So all up you are looking at 1480 inc shipping.  I still include the money back guarantee.  So if you aren't sat on your ass then it won't cost you a cracker!!

cheers
