URS A+N series EQ old software GUI?
« on: January 11, 2009, 10:32:45 AM »

Hi guys,

Curious whether anyone harks back to the old gui of the A or N series eq's?

I used to use the A series all the time as I like the fixed frequencies and it was quick to use. Now the new Gui is difficult to read from a short distance (for me anyway) and I find myself not using it so much for this reason.

I have the Console Strip Pro but it just isn't as quick or intuitive (or dsp light) to me.

Now I guess they had to change the GUI to ward off possible problems with API and Waves.

Has anyone kept with the old installer?

I would love to go back but I can't find legacy installers on the URS site.

I'm running OSX PPC NATIVE here and would really appreciate it if somebody could help me out.

Thanks

Iwan

I don't have it any more either, but agree that I preferred the original. I keep meaning to send a message to URS suggesting they make a version that works like the M series eqs, where you click on the panel to go to the whole steps or use the scroll wheel to go fore finer increments.

I still use the orig version (which I much prefer) on one computer.

I'll check and see if I have anything.

Ahh, that would be great if you still have the installer.

I can't believe I found someone with the same problem/opinion! It wasn't an easy one to Google.

Is there any chance I can get the installer as well? Also, I think getting the Windows version of the installer is not going to be possible, right? Anyway, I am just asking (I use a PC in my home studio).

Cheers,

I stoped using the A & N series for exactly the same reason. I have the older version (win) somewhere around on disc, but I've moved on since.

Are you guys still using the A-Series? Any opinions and preferences?

I have been looking for an eq that runs on TDM as most of my stuff is mostly RTAS nowadays (and there is always DSP's free...). I've been using the Waves API a lot in another studio, like them a lot, but don't really wan't to spend over 1k for a software EQ right now.

I'm downloading the demo as we speak, but would be nice to hear from someone that's been using them for some time. Thanks!

I've been using the A and N series URS EQ's since they were made available. I'm still using the ones with the original GUI and have never tried the newer versions.

These are my go-to plug-ins for eq 80% of the time. If I can spare the room on my UAD card, I'll use the UA 1081 plug-in, but delay compensation, especially inside a drum buss, is such a pain that I usually just go with the URS-N or URS-A.

ok, did some testing of the A-series EQ's, they are pretty nice, use comparably little DSP and are ok for general shaping. I find they lack the mojo of Plugins like the Waves API (or UAD Neve, for example), imho they are rather neutral in comparison, it seems that URS did not model the transformer / saturation effect of the actual hardware units.

I wonder if someone could send me the installers for the older GUI versions of these plugs, the one thing I really like about stepped gain controls is that it makes you decide quickly about a specific setting, I find myself less and less fiddling around details when mixing.

cheers, Marten
