Monitoring at 44k/16 bits. final tweaks?
« on: June 25, 2004, 12:12:18 AM »

Hi
Sometimes I tend to check my mixes or final mastering sessions ( before burning a Red Book CDR) , thru a 16bit/44k system, A/b ing between a DAT machine (model DA30MK2/DA40) and/or the bounced or soon to be bounced 44k/24 file (Power dither level3)going to two channels of a digital board.
Does anyone else do this? what else do you do and what makes you change your decisions so as to avoid any minor losses?
Thanks

Hi Alecio. I load everything in at the sample rate it will be released in (example, for CD - 44.1kHz, for DVD - 48kHz, etc.) and at 24 bit. I used to monitor everything at 16 bit as I mastered, but have gone back to monitoring at 24 all the time. Monitoring at 16 never affected how I processed it and it's just easier to monitor at 24...

thanks, Brad. When you mean easier to monitor at 44k/24 is because:
a) you listen directly from  your main interface/d/a box ?
b) you wanna skip more patching, cascading?

At my own daily stuff, I A/b between PT Mix ADAT bridge´s 24 bit and the outs of a DAt DA$). I feel I slightly diifference in the top end, very hard to realize it, depends on program material.

I created this thread just to see if you guys wsometimes  make up your mind and re-do some minor tweaks due to any loss before the final master is "burned"
Nice weekend
