Opinions wanted on a room (pictures)
« on: December 29, 2008, 03:37:37 am »

I'm considering buying the place pictured here. I'm interested in it because of this loft. See where the TV is? I plan to bass trap/RFZ panel that area heavily and use it for a mixing/dubbing space. Initially, I would also bass trap/RFZ panel the area behind it somewhat, then add more later if needed. The bottom part of the picture is what would be behind me when working. What intrigues me is that the ceiling curves down to the downstairs area. So the back wall would be a fair distance away and below the area where I would be working. I know it's impossible to know without acoustical measurements, but I tend to think this would allow sound to pass by me once, go away, and stay away, for the most part. Y'know, a non-parallel route with a "big throw" for the sound to go. On the other hand, perhaps a space like this might present some acoustical problems that would be difficult and costly to correct.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Looks good to me, as long as you're far enough forward in the room that the side walls are symmetrical. Symmetry behind you is less important, and the open rear is a big help for bass frequencies. (Mids and highs too since the reflections go down and away from you.)
