New tube mic from Oktava
« on: December 14, 2008, 07:00:16 AM »

I sent an e-mail to Natalia Kuzmenko (from www.oktava-online.com) asking for info about this mic and the response was:

'The microphone uses the scheme of famous LOMO 19A4 with some modern modifications. Tube is a Russian military 6?6?-? [She must have written in cyrillic and my computer couldn't decode those missing letters  Evil or Very Mad ]'

It may also be a pentode set up with a cathode follower like the Sony C37a. In photo three in the link above the output transformer appears to be in the power supply (which makes sense considering how small a mk-012 body is) which would lend credence to my theory. So possibly a 6Zh6B-something?

I'd be interested in hearing how they sound, but for almost a grand per body/power supply I doubt I'll be taking the plunge myself any time soon.

It may well be the 6S6B, which is used in the Lomo 19A18.

The 6S6B is a single triode; would work in a mic.

The code you've wrote above would translate to 6J6B, a sharp-cutoff RF pentode.

Yes, it would indeed be a SCP; just like the 6au6 found in the above-mentioned C37a, or the 6J1Bs found in several Chinese tube condensers these days.
