Wood flooring-good idea?

How important is wood flooring in a tracking area?
Is it that much better than carpet?

I figure with wood floor you get the best of both worlds. You can always remove a rug, but carpet is permanent (well kinda).

Agreed, though when someone already has carpet I recommend buying a bunch of 2x4 foot Masonite or plywood panels at Home Depot. They're small and light enough to handle easily, and you can stack them against a wall or in a closet when not needed.

And don't confuse wood flooring with laminate flooring... one is wood, the other is plastic.

Thanks all. This is what I'm going with.

For now...

Some laminate is actually wood composite and glue.

Wouldn't that be a kind of veneer then?

Laminate;

"Laminate flooring is actually a picture of wood attached to composite fiberboard, under a clear finish of melamine. It is considerably less expensive than hardwood and has more options for installation, including some that do not require glue"

Veneer;

"Wood veneer is a type of engineered wood that is made from very thin sheets of wood that are glued onto core panels (made from solid wood, MDF, or particleboard). The thin slices of wood are obtained by peeling the trunk of a tree or by cutting them from large rectangular blocks of wood."

Does anyone know if there is a difference between veneer floors and solid wooden floors regarding static discharge problems ?
I know laminate can cause problems (combined with low humidity).

hello all,
I would say the wood flooring for sure. The acoustics will be so much better for you----not sure how many decibels of difference it can make for you though.

I guess you may have to do a sound test to check that out.

need any home renovation tips....flooring and carpet
