To take the edge off of the discussion a bit...

Has anyone here read Warrior Politics by Kaplan?

Socialism?  You mean like the US government buying big stakes in the banks and financial institutions?

Or is there some other form of socialism anticipated?

Hundreds of millions of dollars in bond money for education and infrastructure were overwhelmingly approved all over my state.  Exit polls showed that while everyone is deeply concerned about their own personal economic outlook, they have come (finally) to the realization that things like schools and roads and <ahem> mental health facilities need money to operate, and that without them, we are dead in the water regardless of the state of the economy.

This is the most hopeful I remember being in a long, long time.

Fenris (because we don't have the pleasure of your real name),

Your hubris does not become you.

I don't see the importance of your "going on the record".  You're welcome to look back in four years time and say whatever you like.

Here is a super-condensed summary of all things that have been, are, and will be (for the record, so to speak): We will do the best we can with what we get.

I have a reasonable amount of faith in this prediction, and I'm not sure I feel the need for any more of a prediction than that.  I am curious as to why you do.

Best,
Jessica

I like your prediction the best. It's way cooler than any of mine.. Hmmm~~~~~~

Your party was run into the ground by a bunch of selfish ass holes and you don't know what to say about it other than, "Well, even though we fucked up,

It isn't "my party" and never has been. And they are far from "selfish ass holes," in fact they are Christians who believe in loving your enemy and turning the other cheek. This is the only explanation for their actions that makes any sense. Allying with Saudi Arabia, one of the leading sponsors of terrorism; sacrificing American lives to bring "democracy" to the Iraqis so they can vote themselves an Islamic theocracy if they so desire; pouring out billions in foreign aid to our sworn enemies; vaguely suggesting the possibility of maybe attacking Iran but never summoning the will to actually do so, even as Iran openly vows to acquire nuclear weapons and wipe Israel off the map; the list goes on and on.

Bush is one of YOUR guys. Not mine. Bush is a socialist/altruist. Barack won the Presidency because he's a more consistent version of the same thing.

I WILL be proven right in four years. But it will make zero impresssion on Democratic supporters, because they place feelings and good intentions above reality. They will support their party regardless of how much destruction it causes, because they believe socialism and pacifism are MORAL.

And why are Democrats so incensed by the word "socialism"? If they are going to seek total government power over every aspect of the economy, if they are going to advocate every principle of socialism short of the abolition of private property, they should call it what it is. Why do they find it necessary to cover it up with meaningless politico-speak?

Democrats and their supporters have no understanding of history and they can't even DEFINE most of the political terms they use. They're so accustomed to speaking in meaningless slogans to fool the masses that they've started to THINK in slogans. They no longer have the ability to comprehend abstract principles. They are morons posturing as intellectuals. At least the Bible-thumpers have the decency to ACT like morons.

I had hoped to live the rest of my life with a decent standard of living, but with the impending establishment of one-party rule, that may not happen. Alas, I am cursed with too much honesty and I'm incapable of deluding myself into believing that a man can make water run uphill or make 2+2=5, regardless of how charsimatic and well-intentioned he is. Perhaps I would be happier if I got a lobotomy so I could be like everyone else.

I think he's just upset over the socialism we've been living under the last 8 years, of using our wages to pay off big cronies and party apparatchiks with no-bid contracts and military profiteering. But in the olden days (pre-BushCo) this wasn't called socialism, it was called Stalin-style COMMUNISM.

Yes. A move supported by BOTH parties, just like the easy-credit policies that led to the meltdown were supported by BOTH parties. They are fundamentally the same. Like Coke and Pepsi, EXACTLY the same ingredients but in slightly different proportions. Welcome to the Weimar Republic.

A move proposed and sent to congress by the Republican President.

How is Obama going to be more socialist than the government owning the banks?

I see you are taking a very dim view of all this sir, and to some extent it's understandable. But some of your comments call into question whether you have been paying attention over the last eight years. I submit again, as I have before that certain aspects of how we govern have been socialist from the beginning. It's not a word that scares me one little bit. I certainly don't think we need to have it one way or the other. There DOES need to be some regulation in order for a free market to run. There just does. This should be quite clear to anyone who is concerned about business.

Please don't put Mr. Bush in "Our" column as he is simply incompetent. He did in fact surround himself with a bunch of selfish assholes. I don't care where they went to church. The evidence is in and it is overwhelmingly clear that many of the people in the executive branch are just horrible people. By any measure! The language used, the bigotry, the free ride for big business, the fear mongering half truths that made up an inept foreign policy, the castration of any dissent, the refusal to understand differing points of view- The list is endless.

I do NOT always support Democrats. I support intellectual power. I support reason. I respect temperament. I believe we have these character rich attributes now working for us {or soon will be} and I think, I HOPE you will at least allow some time to pass before you pronounce that you have it "All Figured Out".

The problem is, and always will be that no one has it all figured out. The idea is to focus on real problem solving and to employ the best minds available and willing, to take on these challenges that you seem to have, "all figured out" already.. If you believe you know so damn much, I would suggest contacting the Obama transition team at once.. If you can find a way to do this. They WILL LISTEN to what you believe. This is a new idea for us these days. Isn't it?

Which "group" Of Christians are you talking about. Carl Rove? Dick CHAIN-ME? Who?

I know plenty of Christians who believe very strongly that these people should be jailed because the committed crimes. Against you.

As Chris Matthews would say. "You Sir, are amazing."

I have a question for you Fenris,

Are there any Christians who are Liberals? Is Obama a Muslim? If he is, does this mean he's going to hell? Is fixing our roads and using the Government to run the FAA make us all hell bound Socialists?

The last guy who asked Obama a tough question had his personal information dug up by one of Obama's supporters and reported by the media in an extremely distorted manner in order to turn him into a public laughing stock. So I'll pass.

And if you think Obama is any kind of thinker, try reading a transcript of one of his speeches, minus the hypnotic vocal tones, and then ask yourself if he actually SAID anything.

Joe the Plumber did not ask a tough question. It was simple and straight forward. The premise as presented was a lie however.   Joe the Plumber got a 6 minute answer.

Joe The Plumber then went all over national media misrepresenting the answer with the help of a Fox News edit.

Joe the Plumber ended up being the person full of 100% baloney.
