Hello all

I'm looking for a general opinion of this asymmetrically shaped room and what might need to be done to make it usable for a simple mix position setup:



I was thinking that by placing some sort of divider at the mix position it would become usable:



My question is:

Would a temporary partition of some sort - tall office cubicle dividers or something similar - do the trick?

Or, would you pretty much have to build a wall?

Perhaps it would be better with the mix position like this:



Is it possible that with enough acoustic treatment the shape of the room might be a non-issue (ie: no need to build a wall or partition) if the angle of the skewed wall isn't too steep? If so, what would be an acceptable angle?

Unfortunately I have no measurements at this time.

Without dimensions I can only guess. I'd probably set up as you show at the top, and not bother with a rigid wall. You'll need absorption at the side-wall (and ceiling) reflection points anyway, so just put that panel on the right on a stand. That should be enough to force symmetry.

That's exactly what I was looking for.

I wasn't sure what measures would be needed for acceptable symmetry, and wanted to make sure it wouldn't be a "don't even bother" sort of deal. In this scenario, building a wall would be and unwanted nuisance.

Wondering about dimensions too here... and where the door(s) are...

I'm wondering too! ha ha. Hopefully I'll get them tomorrow. Forgot to bring the tape measure earlier.

It's not huge, but not tiny... about 250 sq ft, maybe even closer to 300.

In my drawing the door would be in the bottom left corner.


Another thought - perhaps this would make more sense, as it would minimize parallel surfaces near the mix position:

Well, no measurements necessary... went to do a "sound check" today and moderate volume carried through the building like it was made of paper. It would take much more sound proofing than I would like to do, so the search continues.
