I've had one for about half a year now.  Always lives on my drum subgroup.  It is wonderful for drums and bass.  You can do massive compression and have it still sounding quite large on the back end.  Stuff comes out with a little more low end then when it goes in.  It's ok on gtrs too.  Haven't like it too much on vox, a little too agressive.  But for drums it is great, you can get a wide variety of sounds with the attack and release.  My only real complaint is it is hard to do stereo linking, even though it does have a stereo link function.  When in link both sides still control compression as opposed to just one, and this also affects the output of that side as well.  No detents either.
But for a really hard sounding snare, this one is hard to beat.

Thanks for the reply Jason, how would you say it compares to an 1176?

I'm kinda caught between getting a 2-1176 or the C2S.

Hey Jason,

Is that a ProVLA at the bottom of that rack??  If so, what do you use it for?

Peace,

James

It behaves a little like the 1176, but it is not as smooth lets say.  Much more aggressive in that you can get things to sit pretty well.  It seems like it does more compressing than our 1176 will.  Also you don't lose any low end when running signal thru, the 1176 seems to chop off much below 80hz.

1176 works better on vocals, but the c2  can manhandle some drums.  The comp at the bottom of the rack is a Manley Elop.  Used for any and everything!

I have a sneaking suspicion that if you recapped the 1176, you wouldn't have that frequency loss problem.

i spoke to the designer at namm, he said he started the design with Gyraf's 1176 clone, and took it from there. I bet it sounds cool.
