Footage of Dinosaur Jr in the studio
« on: February 28, 2009, 05:48:40 PM »

Some interesting stuff, on what gear they use (API console, etc) and some of the inner workings of the band. Interesting to hear from John Agnello, as he's worked on most of the stuff since "Where You Been", and has been the underrated cog in the Dinosaur Jr sound in the last long while.

Too bad their best stuff was "You're Living All Over Me" and "Bug."

What makes John "under rated"?

seems to me he's relatively highly rated!

was this recent?

I know John's been mixing with them these last few weeks

"transistors and amplifiers and stuff..."

he's so technical!

Highly rated in the industry, yes; underrated in the sense that alot of Dinosaur Jr fans just think that the band naturally sounds like that on record. J and John also imparted alot of the same sound on Tad's "Inhaler" album....wherever J was, John was. I noticed those same qualities popping up on the albums that John did that J wasn't involved with (Gumball, Chainsaw Kittens "Pop Heiress"/ s/t, Jawbox, Redd Kross "Phaseshifter", etc), so I just sort of deduced that John sort of was the main guy responsible for that sound.

It was recent, yes.

Wow, I saw Dinosaur Jr. the other night.  Holy crap they rock.  I haven't been that blown away by a show in a long time.

Murph is one of the best rock drummers I have ever seen.  He looked like he was barely hitting the drums (ie not flailing his arms like an idiot) and the drums sounded amazing.

Although J looked like he didn't really care that he was playing a show he still played amazingly.

Lou played with an awesome energy that really stole the show.

These guys still have it.  I am so happy that they put their problems behind them and are rocking again.  You will not be disappointed if you go see them.  Plus you get the tour seven inch.
