I don't know, but are you dropping UAD? Because they have the SPL licensed plugin.

Why do you feel you need this? Just curious.

I have the waves one... seems to work reasonably well , but I have not used the others so I can't compare...

I was "all about that" for a week or two, but then gave up using it completely... Not that there was anything in particular I didn't like about it..  I have just been going for a more organic approach to everything these days... the less processing I can do the better I like my work.

A tiny bit of EQ ...  a smidge of compression and that's about it.

The box is pretty indispensable.
But the UAD plugin is nice too (providing you have a card).

If you don't have a card, SPL has a native TD plugin. It's probably identical to the UAD one.

you don't need to have that stuff but it certainly helps every once in a while. Btw I think you can't match it with eq or compressor in any kind (the SPL unit - I have no clue about the plugs)
Regarding the hardware I experienced that it can't handle high levels too well. So take care how much db you put into it or the thing starts to fart around ...

the TD is magic.  having it in UAD has been awesome.  i actually don't use it on drums and perc as much as I use it on guitars to bring out sustain and control pick attack.  truly indispensable.

The UAD + SPL works great, a totally different flav than the others out there like the ones that come onboard with DAW. MOre smooth. Samplitude has a great one, part of their AM-suite of plugs available outside of Samplitude too. Its more bitty on the Attack, great on the backend compared to the UAD and SPL.

the UAD to me sounds more like the hardware, more rack mounted sounding, for lack of a better term, than the SPL plug. To me at least.

the interface of the SPL plug and the UAD is identical.  leads me to believe that it's the same thing.  maybe not.

using the trial of the SPL right now.  i dig it.  and i really like having it RTAS and not having to run i/o through yet another card.

my leap to the UAD card is starting to look inevitable though.  bummer!

just wish those guys would do TDM again.

Dominion by Digitalfishphones is a great free transient designer for Win and Mac vst

I prefer it to the Sony Oxford Transient Designer! A fundamental part of my toolbox. Do check the other plugs while you're there... All good.

Not really a bummer.
It isn't as cool as the Transient Designer.  Not even close.
