what happened......
« on: October 01, 2008, 04:54:43 PM »

so i'm sitting here mixing a 10 song record.  doing nothing different then usual.

i'm in the edit window in PT (i only have one monitor) i switch back to the mix window and everything is exactly the same EXCEPT, all the meters are SUPER wide.

what the hell???????  it's not in the view menus, nothing on the digi database or the user guide.

while it's kinda cool, it's bugging the crap out of me.  a reboot did nothing as well.

here is a screen shot, can you fix this?

A quick search for 'wide meters' on the DUC reveals:

"CTRL+OPT+CMD and click on the meters and it will toggle back & forth between narrow and wide meters."

An obscure one for sure...

Are you sure you haven't been using narrow meters thinking they are normal, J?

That looks like mine normally does, with 'narrow' meters as an option from there.

Easy one to hit by mistake, CTRL+OPT+CMD...

ha, that made me a laugh a bit, I remember stumbling upon the giant meters one time too

okay, here's one:  back when I was an intern for a big studio, I swear I saw a guy get little channel faders for each channel on the PT edit window.  Is that possible or am I just nuts?  I guess I might have been seeing aux send faders or something (I disable that view), but I swear I remember him mixing from the edit window on little kickass faders...

Narrow meters are default.  The wide meters are a little easter egg for those who have to set levels from across the room.

"Narrow Mix", under the View menu.
Or you could just hit Option ⌘ M

no, he's talking about vertical views in the edit window.

in the edit window, upper left corner is the small icon of the horizontal views (rulers), left of that is the vertical views.  click on that and select the appropriate options.

i know what i did now.  i option, cntl, cmmd clicked on the track name in the edit window to turn all tracks back to wavform view.  i must have missed slightly and hit the meter.

Ah. Missed that.

Well as far as I know, the only way to bring up a channel fader in the edit window is to click on the little icon in the i/o column.

Unless, as Colin mentioned, they were the aux send faders.

Oh, I see.

I misread this, and I thought he was talking about the whole strip, not just the meter (regular vs. narrow mix).

So...  Learn something new every day!
