Who has a liquid cooled Powermac G5 ??? !!!!!
« on: September 01, 2008, 01:07:49 PM »

Hey guys my liquid cooled G5 2.7 recently blew up
This computer was not even 3 years old
It had been showing very strange behavior for months
and
after dealing with Apple and getting absolutely NO help in finding or solving the problem
I had to look to other outside techs
and through research
I have found some VERY disturbing information

Liquid cooled G5 2.5 and 2.7's are time bombs
If your computer has
a fan that is running away wildly or has shown power problems like just shutting off
or
you can see some kind of goo coming out the back
or it won't restart consistently
and other weird problems
then
You very well might
have a leaking coolant and your computer is on the way out

This is really crazy but I will post on the bottom many many links
and I want you guys to check it out
Why Apple has not made these problems COMMON knowledge is beyond me
I am very disturbed here about this

If you know you have a liquid cooled dual G5
then TAKE heed
this is one step away from a class action lawsuit

please let me know if you are one of the unfortunate because I am about to try to get to some of the higher ups in Apple and
let them know that this is NOT OK

WOW!!  sorry to hear that anyone has to deal with this.  apple is usually really great about admitting problems and dealing with them.

keep us posted.

we had the liquid cooling pop on a G5 about a year ago...sadly though we're in South Africa and very long way away from anything resembling Mac service (even if it wasn't particularly useful in your case). We took it back to the local agents and they were dumbfounded that we'd managed to spill cream soda in our mac! We were dumbfounded that they thought we were so stupid...long story short things got expensive for us when we had to buy a new G5. They cost of replacing the PSU and motherboard was completely ridiculous. Although I was under the impression that failure of the liquid cooling system was an extremely rare thing, obviously not!

Thanks for the heads up. My G5 has a run-away fan, freezes up, won't start up and it's been getting progressively worse over the last few months to the point that I almost never use it anymore. I'll be checking shortly to see if there's any signs of leakage too. My one foray into Mac-land has been nothing but a negative experience thus far.

Let's not get carried away. Apple may be better than most computer companies, but they flat out deny any problem until it's obvious to even the most casual observer there is a problem.

And I'm a stockholder, not a hater...
