I'm really digging the new Beck record ["Modern Guilt"].

Also...

Ghengis Tron - "Board Up the House" - if any of you are into heavy stuff, you should run to check these guys out. They're really doing something fresh.

Holy Sons - "Decline of the West" - Drummer for Grails solo stuff.

Grails - "Take Refuge In Clean Living"

Crowbar - "Broken Glass" - classic heavy sludge

Kyuss - "Blues For the Red Sun"

Queens of the Stone Age - "Lullabies to Paralyze"

Metallica: Death Magnetic
Radiohead: live bootlegs

Sorry I've been quiet for a while... has anyone heard the new Metallica?  Has this discussion been had yet?

nope, and i just can't understand why they have so much trouble getting a decent snare sound.  or better yet, why the snare drum has to be so damn loud

Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther

I have tons of friends who worship Midlake...

And J, yeah, I agree.  That said, however, the writing is better than it's been in years.  Decades?  I'm not commenting on the mix, really.  I just really like the songs way more than normal.

I was noticing in the car today that they seemed to intentionally cut the snare frequencies and amplitude to give the toms and the guitars more noticeability or something.  Did you notice that?  Or am I all wrong here?

Speaking of mixing, I had an issue with the way Hetfield's vocals are so thin.  Anyone?  Anyway, still REALLY like the songwriting.  Lyrics, eh.  Songs as a whole, definitely.  Reminded me of (dare I say it?) 100YW...

Kyuss - "Welcome to Sky Valley"

Mother Mary, what a record! Stoner rock perfection. I wish they'd reunite.

Jenny Lewis - "Acid Tongue"

I was surprised that I liked this, but it has some rad tunes on it. I checked it out after reading a recent Rolling Stone article. Has some cool sounds from a recording standpoint, and the songs and arrangements are solid. Great voice.

P.J. Harvey - "Rid of Me"

LOVE the guitar sounds on this record.

Anyone heard that new MELVINS record.
It's the best one they've made yet... almost.
It's cool to see how KARP & THE TIGHT BROS. stuff is influencing the Melvins/Buzzo with the addition of Jarred.  When you consider that KARP was all about the Melvins. Very Happy

Anyway, one of the most exciting albums I've heard in a while.
Each song is like ... WWaaaaaaoooHHhhhhhhh!!*#!(*(#&!  Neat!

i'm downloading the new Torche record ('Meanderthal') as we speak. my friend won't shut up about this record, so i'm curious. recorded by Kurt Ballou of Converge.

don't wanna embarrass J., but i finally got around to getting the Hundred Years War record and i like it a lot. i really dig a lot of the vocal effects, which is something i never really thought i'd say. really good drumming, too.

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness...

I forgot what a beautiful record that was.. Alan Moulder engineered I believe.  HUGE drum sounds, probably had alot to do with Jimmy Chamberlin's skills.

But any idea how they got the drums to sound like that?
That snare in particular on Bullet With Butterfly Wings.. Ohhhh! hehe
