Britains Fight To Preserve Their Civil Rights

Both parties in Britain are fighting hard against their Prime Minister who is trying to curtail civil liberties.  If only it would happen here (U.S.).

It got through the House of Commons this time (damaging Brown's reputation in the process because of how he got it through), but luckily we have the House of Lords here. It's expected that they'll tear it apart and bounce it back.

It's an odd seeming system, many people find an unelected upper house to be offensive... but the very fact that they don't have to worry about reelection gives them the courage to stand up for what is right, and lawful, and not just what is popular. Sometimes I think the Lords are the only ones in parliament that actually read the bills and consider their repercussions.
