wtf?
thank god the 4ppl masters i've done were for ppl who didn't want it.

is this a sign of my plextor giving up the ghost?

Too weird... maybe it's a virus spreading around the globe, quick call the CDC!

But seriously John, did you try all the basic fixes(?):

which version/any recent updates to WB or Logic?

double check your prefs/trash plist

run repair permissions

see if CDTxt works on a diff burner

deinstall/reinstall WB

don't forget about the pro app support/version?

or is it the reader malfunction, try drutil, plextools, CD player.

just trying to help.

Hi All

Long time lurker - always found the site really interesting and super useful. I generally find the answers to my questions by searching the forum, but today I am right up against a deadline, so searching is out of the question, and as it is only a quickie maybe someone can help (!) -

Is there a limit to the number of characters of CD text you should put on a track title?

I am burning a master on Wavelab and I have a couple of tracks with long names (like 40 or so characters), which Wavelab is quite happy for me to input, but the only player I have to check them on seems to only be able to read 32.

Is this to do with the player (Denon DN-C615), and on other players the full track titles will show, or is there some kind of general 32 character limit that I dont know about?

Any help welcome

Cheers

yes

depends on the player, most likely won't show more than 32, even tho' the info is there.

I think it's just a practical limit for the few players that do read text... not really limited by the red book spec.

here's a link to more info:

With all the confusion/issues that are occurring with CD-Text at present, I'm tempted to quit using it altogether!

Is anyone else experiencing weird CD text behaviour with Waveburner?

I input all the info, make sure that CD text is enabled in prefs and burn....
In Plextools I can see the CD text fine, but my Marantz CD deck won't read or display it. [If I burn the same thing in Toast the Marantz shows the CD text fine...]

Any clues? I've tried several different machines and burners.
I even updated to Logic 8 to get waveburner 1.5

Does Soundblade write CD text reliably?

Hello Peter,

We recently acquired a Marantz CD5001, and I can confirm your results.

It will Not read CD-Text from WaveBurner -or- Sonic Studio,

but it will read CD-Text from Roxio Toast, except for the "artist" field in the track areas, which shows blank.

My guess is that Toast writes text in the Lead In TOC area, which the Marantz can read,

and WB and sB may write in the Track R-W subcode area, which the Marantz doesn't read.

Just a Guess.

Oddly, the Denon 615 reads CD-Text from all the above.

OSX "Drutil" and Plextools easily read any CD-Text.

More evidence that CD-Text writing and reading is a big conundrum at present, and all the parties involved need to agree on One bullet proof Standard.

It would be nice if some subcode wizard on the level of Ken Pohlmann could look into this for us, and report back.

Afterthought: I noticed WaveBurner has released a 1.5.2 update, anyone tried it yet?

BTW - I really like the Marantz CD5001, sounds really good, lots of nice features, and has excellent smooth FF and RW which is sorely missing on most newer CD players including the Denon 615.
