Oh, and no comments on the flanged guitars on "If You Need a Goodbye"?  I thought for sure that would get a raised eyebrow.

Typek: I reinstated the files for the purpose of this conversation.  Feel free to take a listen.

So, we've finished tracking a few additional instruments and reamped the bass.  Spent a day mixing, pushing the songs into a tighter space.  We've scheduled another day for mix, and then we'll call it done.  I'll post results when I've got 'em.

d-

yeah, i like these songs man! You should check out an album called "Lions Write History" by In Pieces. The vocal style is not really too similar, but the tones you tracked remind me of certain parts that album, and so does the style of playing. I really love the mix Andrew Schnieder did on that record. Check it out.. He does a great job of letting the sounds create the mix, create the image.. not necessarily forcing a sound on the mix based on what you think it should end up like.

I am really excited to hear your mixes.

Speaking of In Pieces... any of you ever heard of them, know if they ever plan on blessing us with more recordings? Last release was in 05'. Pretty sure they were all Boston based that the time.

I got so excited when you said that, then I realized once I clicked  the link that the "stream the new CD" link that you probably saw was from 2005. These guys made some GREAT music.

Whoops.  I saw the "last updated 7/15/2009" and made an assumption.

Well, here are the results of our little experiment.  These are the final mixes, provided the band provides no further comment.  Or, rather, if I don't feel like there's anything more to fix - the band's been pretty happy throughout this process, which has been nice.

These tracks are have been limited, so aren't the actual ones to be sent to mastering.

Again: comments welcome.  This won't be headed to mastering for a little while yet.  I've got time to make adjustments.

Here's what I learned:

1.) EQing busses requires extraordinary subtle adjustments.  A 2db boost at 2K was sometimes far too much.
2.) 150-300Hz is hard to hear, but easy to feel when it's too much or too little.
3.) I hate snares.
4.) My room needs adjustment.

Thanks,

L

Sounds good bro!

I had a very quick scan through about three songs and the instrument balances sound great.  Overall the mixes maybe need a tad more high end / sparkle,  but the balances are good so the Mastering Engineer will be able to boost the top without anything poking out. (In other words don't worry about it)

No doubt the band is happy with your work.  Well done.

Thanks for sharing the process with us.  It's always fun being a fly on the wall.!

I didn't listen to the entire songs, but browsed through them. I really enjoy the production. Sounds very good IMO. Great job!

Cheers
