MC012's-In-Line Pads-RNP Question?
« on: May 26, 2004, 02:12:54 PM »

I'm using 2 mc012 without the 10db screw in pads as overheads. I want to push the gain of my RNP to get into that airy top end I experience on other sources. (I'm barely at 12-16 gain stage)

I'm currently using 2 20db XLR in-line pads at the mic cables. Is their a difference in audio quality by using the xlr in-line pads verses the screw in 10db pads of the mc012's?

thanks

I've used the Oktava pads before and they added no color to the sound. I wouldn't spend extra money on other pads.

Hey Harvey,

I was trying to find a thread where you mentioned something about the mc012 screw on pads effecting the sound of the mic. Is that something I read correctly, thus the question which would be more effective the 10db mc012 pads or the 20db fixed pads in order to get more gain out of my RNP (for drum overs).

thanks Warren as well.

You shouldn't be using pads.  Push the RNP hard and attenuate after.  Patch an RNC at the insert point and set it to not compress at all while lowering the output level enough not to clip your input.
