I have to say that the modded SP-1 has become my go-to mic. And I have a choice of many fine mics now. Maybe it just matches my voice.

How to get it modded, and I understand he may have some new tricks for the upgrade.

This is a side address, 22 mm capsule, hypercardiode pattern. Same capsule as the MXL 603/4. Same Schoeps style circuit with room insides. It has a flat response to 7k, then a 3db lift at 20k hz. They have about 60 left, then they are gone.

Jim, I snagged three of the Nady's (it's gotta be the same mic) to do the Mini-Mojave-Mod. Do you have any idea how your mod would stack up sonically to Royer's tube/transformer mod? How do the specs change after you get through with these?

PS-are you guys selling Rhodes parts now? I've got a 73 I want to restore. Needs, pedals, legs, a few pickups and some tines...

Not sure how the prices are in the US but I really like my Milab DC196.
Also the Sage Bova Balls, most of Rode's products (I have an NT2 and NT4, used a Classic II).

Off topic and not Jim, but I get all my Rhodes parts at Speak Easy:

click for parts

or hardware

or logos and badges

Hope that helps.

Is the C414 under $1k?  I use mine for lots of stuff and they rarely disappoint me.

SM-7, Josephson C-42 SDC, and EV RE-20 are what I have that would fall in this category.

Tape Op seems to love the Mercenary KM-69. The reviewer said he used it more than his Neumann original.

Neumann TLM193.  If you like the way something sounds in the room, you'll be reminded of that sound a lot with what the 193 captures.  Used ones under $1k.

I just got a Studio Projects CS5 that I am VERY happy with....streets for around $500.00. I bought a B stock item CS5 off of ebay for around $300.00. A very classy sounding mic indeed !!

AT4050 - solid workhorse with a huge open sound, and a great studio reputation.
