« on: May 25, 2004, 04:09:59 PM »

i've been modding my amek ever since i got it

and the tech who did the master section suggested that i replace the control room volume pot with something nicer to further enhance the audio path.

klett sent me straight to the pot he prefers and i bought it

now.....the big question has been.....what knob do i put on this pot

drum roll please!!!!!!!!

Cool knob.  What pot did he suggest and how much $$$?  I'm looking to rebuild my volume control box with better components.  Currently have a $3 rat shack 100K stereo audio taper in there  Shocked .

...never mind, just saw the thread in his forum.  $60, eh?  Thats twice as much as I spent on the current incarnation altogether.

my only comment is, yeah, budget is great, but if i'm going to have my own personal mix room that i equip and try to sell to people, then i'm going to do everything i can to ensure it is as sonically awesome as i can make it.

60 bucks for a high quality pot seemed a no brainer considering it directly relates to what i hear out of the speakers.

i'm getting ready to have every channel on the amek modded heavily so i can keep all the automation and recall power of the desk, yet have it sound as awesome as the 2mix sounds now.

if it takes me 5 years to have the whole thing modded, then so be it.

Yeah, I totally agree.  I've spent serious cash (at least for me) on good software, D/A, amplification, monitors and room treatment.  It does seem kinda silly after all that to send the audio through a cheap carbon potentiometer.

the way i see it is like this.

if the only thing standing between me and hearing the sounds more clearly (which lets me make more educated judgement) is 60 bucks......then take the 60 bucks, i'll earn it back when my work improves and i get more gigs

piece by piece, i'll get it all lined out with the gear i want, and it will sound the way i want.

it might take 15 years.....but i'll get it done one way or another.
