ya that ad is cheese whiz.   if it's an acquaintance of Terry, then he is just not good at advertising, but what good engineer is?

Nick, there's a hell of a lot more knowledge about these things than there was even 10 years ago. One in not very good shape might be a better deal and is likely very restorable, assuming the right components are still good.

I rented my U47 for one day to someone who I mistakenly thought was reliable and it came back with many dents in the capsule screen. Now, amazingly, its as good as new, and is better than when I bought it in 92 or so.

Dan I am sure you are right, but first you gotta find one with a VF14 at least, and then find a good mechanic.  Klaus is booked solid til 2010, so he is off the list.

There are other people, depending on what you need. You have to have a good capsule and a VF-14 is good but a minor mod will let you use a UF- or EF-14. A friend of mine has one modded in the 60s to Nuvistor and it truly sounds great. Prejudice and style can be very expensive.
