Music that makes a difference
« on: April 18, 2008, 06:01:01 am »

The subject has been brought up here before,

Well anyway - I've been on kind of a 5 year plan to produce some music, which (on occasion) addresses topics of social issues, crime, violence etc - not being too dogmatic about it, but trying to make some music that maybe, somehow, in some small way might make a little difference when it gets sent out into the World.

One thing I'm really proud of, in this context, is the instrumental 'dub' mix I did of one of my prod's (with the reggae singer Michael Rose from Black Uhuru) - just got selected & used in a new 2008 campaign from Amnesty International to increase International awareness & address issues of human rights, crime, violence & security in Jamaica..

The song itself (vocal version) is actually about these very concerns & topics in Jamaica..

You can see the report & documentary clip here:

http://www.amnesty.org/jamaica-report-2008

Just thought I would share this...

(Note: the problems illustrated in the report are mainly confined to urban ghetto areas where foreigners never go - the Jamaican North coast ,where the tourist industry is centered, is a totally different World altogether. The tourist industry is an important source of $ for the economy)

Trying in our small way to make a difference is what we had in mind in doing the Staple Singers recordings.
