not on the first album.

and the compressor on the first album was probably an altec.

As Glyn Johns did the first album, at Olympic, there is a strong likelyhood that it was either Altec (modified) or PYE compressor used.

Jimmy said SPECIFICALLY (in a private conversation) it was a borrowed  J200 and through the Ba6a
He was emphatic that he had it for the first record.

And after some detective work comparisons, I'm convinced that J200  was the mid-60's Townshend type, with the tune-a-matic bridge as well

that just has THAT sound.

(hence, that's what's in the picture)

William,

Is Eddie producing this one as well or are you?  He played the last CD for us at the Helios listening event, sounded good.

I redid a good bit of two tracks on that record and mixed them.
I actually don't think Eddie was terribly pleased about it. (and no doubt neglected to mention it)

He's not involved in this current project.

I think this is the guitar

J200 with electric guitar strings.

he actually mentioned it was a 50's model years ago..

what year is the guitar in the video? I see screws...

as far as the BA6a, Page never tells the whole story... although he may very well have had a ba6a by then

I believe that the midrange is more typical of the altec/176 type circuit.

when he was touring the states, it is probable that he picked up BA6A's cheap from the numerous radio stations which were getting rid of them... I don't think they were available in britain in 1968.

Fortunately, for me, I didn't have to do the detective work on the compressor, when I was told unequivocally what it WAS.

a 50's J200 would NOT have the tune-a-matic

the guitar on LZ I was borrowed from a producer.

Funny; Jeff Beck also borrowed a producer's (Mickey Most) acoustic for his Truth lp (Greensleeves).

in this case Brian it is sonically corroborated.

we were trying, for example, a multitude of could have been; guitars trying to get that sound when we had the conversation and 'bang', there it was.

in any case.
I want it to sound right.
there are no extra points for using the exact same gear; except as it serves getting the sound right.

for example, I'm recording with a Neve.

the word "with" is not a synonym for "on"

for instance, I was WITH JJ last time I was in LA...

William, I don't think you entirely sidestepped the risk of misinterpretation with that one.  Wink

yes, the guitar on the video has the porcelain bridge.. it is indeed a 60's guitar ... hence 'the screws'
