Thx, Dave. That was eye-popping!

FUnny.  I thought maybe this thread would be about the new generation of 3d film projection which is, BTW, amazing.  I went to a presentation last week about it which included  segments of a bunch of recent & upcoming 3d movies... very exciting.  THe U23d is incredible.  Ireally came away feeling like this opens up new channels of expression in filmmaking.

I saw U23D at the company's HQ - gave me a headache  - it was like watching a front to back succession of flat images (They call this "cardboarding") and I couldn't make out a word Bozo sang, although inexplicably vocals came from all points.

I didn't think much of the sound but not being familiar with the room I saw it in I didn't want to pass judgement.
Having seen a few of those 3d movies now I feel like I've had to retrain my eyes & visual brain a bit to relax & just sort of let it in without trying to refocus & track things the way we do in the real world.  Once I've done that the eyestrain goes away & the experience can be very cool & convincing.

In my experience really good 3D takes into account the time it takes for your eyes to educate. Talking to one of the software designers for the film I know that was the intent, but it didn't work for me.

The best 3D I've seen was the IMAX "Space Station in 3D". Absolutely stunning. Probably the best cinematic experience I've ever had. Like floating in space, maybe, but with gravity.

I saw Beowulf in 3D at IMAX in London. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

I just saw U23D last night at the Imax theatre in Sydney, & it was truly the best live concert video I've ever seen. I really felt like I was onstage with the band.
There were a few times where the vocals got a bit indistinct, but mostly the sound was awesome.

I've only seen a few 3D films at Imax, but every time I though both sound & visuals were great (great for 2D as well).
