headphone cables???
« on: May 16, 2004, 03:45:40 AM »

hey harvey, ive got 3 pairs of cans not working coz of shit leads. whats decent? theyre just spares for when im tracking bands live, but i dont even know what i should be looking for in headphone cables! something that can take a bit of abuse, cheap enough to keep a roll handy, and the right impedance (what the hell is the right impedance for headphone cables anyway? theres a thread idea....cable impedances for different types of gear)

thanks mate

It really dose not matter within certain bounds. Your dealing with low enough frequencies so that the impedance of the cable dose not come in to play. This is true for any connection you might make in a studio. +4 Balanced,-10 unbalanced, headphone's,speaker and so on. The loads are determined by the output and/or input electronics on the gear. In the case of headphones,I use beldon 2 conductor with a shield. Buy up some switchcraft connectors and your good to go.. I know there should not be a shield but I've had no problems.

The point is , the impedance factor in a cable is  not relevant.

geez, pretty much the first time in history i decide to actually give a fuck about cable impedance and im shut down!!
i was thinking it didnt matter a great deal, but i thought it would be worth checking just in case. thanks mate
