Howdy - I did try and point out that there are and have been issues with the MIO stuff & I have had my frustrations in the past, that having said - it is sure far more stable now with the new drivers.
I was almost to the point myself of abandoning the platform & changing to digi 002. But now its gotten better,
The notion of releasing stuff on the market thats unfinished - agreed there.
I think the scoop is that its one guy doing all the programming & he is apparently a computer genius / PHD - only that it turned out to be far too big of a job for one person to get the code happening & keep up with new os like OS X etc, various software revisions etc. Whereas a company like Digidesign probably has dozens of programmers sorting it out day in day out.
As for the brainwashed - perhaps that is too strong of a word
.
What I think is most MIO owners take it all in stride / with a grain of salt, and choose to deal with the strange quirks, company denials of reality and workarounds which everyone is aware of - for the good sound of the units.
Thats the basic scoop - is that the sound is great & a good deal for the money for what you get IMO eg: the basic 2882 - 8 in/out model.
Once again - if you are doing live recordings or project studio action - its worth checking out.
If you are a pro studio / 24 hours a day kind of operation it may not be the thing due to bugs & reliability, but then those folks would be going for PT HD anyway.
