I think he means the one you are building

you know, the pretty one, with the expensive pots, the required expensive pot, to finish

Oh, the mastering console? Man, it was installed the first week of March. Here's a pic:

Cool box.

Am I seeing this right...?

You have rotary switches for each insert (1-6) to use for bypassing each piece (to see if you really want it in line or not). These are rotary switches because (I'm guessing here...) they are quieter and/or faster than toggle switches?

Also, could you explain the Process and Monitor switches?

These rotary switches (Shallcos) have a rather huge contact surface, much larger than a toggle...

Process switch selects what source feeds the processing chain, the monitor switch determines what you listen to - any of the 6 possible sources plus the output of the DAW.

I do love it. I don't know that it sounds better than the Crane Song console, but it definitely has more flexibility, which is the reason I built it. I know it can't sound worse - a well implemented passive design cannot be surpassed in a fixed installation like this...

Pre-processing for all sources except DAW, which is post, of course...

Either way. Whatever is coming out of the DAW...

Nope.

I thought you were using 2 soundcards - 1 for playback & 1 for captured material. That's why I figured the DAW position was for either the original dig file (playback) or the post-processed, captured file... So, are the D1 & D2 selects for the original dig files (playback soundcard outs)?

Sorry, misunderstood what you were asking. The DAW output is the output of workstation post-prcessing (mastered).

Okay, okay...  I'll ask...

  • How much were all the parts?
  • Are you going to "mass" produce them?
  • How much will you charge all your buddies here to put one together?
  • Would you consider putting together a "kit" package and how much would such a package go for?

How much were all the parts?

Very reasonable, about $2500.

Not really interested.

The wiring diagram is easy:

why don't you just post a parts list, minus the metal chasis, and engraving.....and let those interested track down the parts and build whatever they want?

just a thought.
