Viitalahde, Have you ever replaced the diaphragm on your tweeters? I believe Quested recommend doing it every few years.

Nope, but they're not even two years old yet.

Just got off the phone with Wes at Quested. They reckon every couple of years fit new diaphragms. Since mine are abou 4 years old I've ordered a couple. Great company to deal with.
A film composer friend of mine who also has some 2108s, blew the amps on one speaker and they shipped him a whole new set of amps overnight, without taking a payment,  to get him back up and running [and this was way out of warranty period] They then fixed his original amps, sold him another set at cost price to make sure he always had a spare to avoid downtime.

I'll be interested to see the difference the fresh Ds make.

And talking of Ds, doesn't DC rock a set of Questeds too ?

Yes, I used H-108's as the small system for years, and now use H-208's.

I happen to like the way they sound and relate well to them.  I've also used N802's, TOC, JBL 4435's........

Thanks Dave, but just to be clear these are the only monitors that you are currently using for mastering? Also, do you prefer not to use subs?

Just a note about replacing diaphragms in the Quested tweeters - after replacing the diaphragms a couple of times it is recommended by Quested to put a few drops of ferro fluid in the gap.

H-108 user.  i just mix, but i love these speakers.  have a velodyne sub filling out the bottom, with an adcom amp powering the questeds.  can't imagine what else i'd use.

I used Quested VH3208's in my room at Ardent for years (powered initially by a Crown MacroReference (too bright) and later by the Quested amp (might be the 800?)) - I liked them very much.

Brad, about the Quested amp, was the amplifier in a machine room or with you in the room? The reason I ask is because these amplifiers are fan cooled and wondered about the noise.

I've believe both Dynaudio and Quested use MC2 amplifiers which I'm now considering using with a pair of Dynaudio M2s. To step up from my BM6As

Initially I had it in the room with me, but the fan isn't quiet so I ended up placing it in the machine room. Not the ideal mastering room amp.

Thanks Brad, exactly what I was looking for. SO, since I don't have a dedicated machine room, I really need a passively cooled amp like a Pass Lab, Class

Hi Denis,

Ampwise, if you haven't come across them before, how about Hypex? - I see Jaakko mentioned them earlier in the thread as a mate for his DIY speakers.

http://www.hypex.nl/

I'm contemplating Midimonos from MM audio (there's a link on the Hypex front page) to drive three front PMC IB2s as a cost-effective alternative to Brystons. I haven't heard the Hypexes yet, but there are enough enthusiastic professional users to pique my interest. The amps usually come in kit form - the MM ready-builts seem to be the exception. There's no lack of kit suppliers in the US and I noticed the components offered on the eBay Canada site. More building info. here

Back on topic, it looks likely that stereo or dual monobloc Hypex would be a worthy fanless contender for your Questeds. I'm also a big Quested fan (pun unintended) having used various models over the years to track and mix including the first 210Bs. Roger is a one of the good guys and an underrated studio designer.
