Super Tuesday Is TOMORROW! PLEASE VOTE.
« on: February 04, 2008, 11:55:39 AM »

Please be sure to take time to vote.  This well may be one of the most important votes you ever cast.  And by law you are allowed time off from work to vote.

Please don't shirk your duty (and right) as an American citizen.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Voting is your most basic obligations as a citizen of a democracy. If you don't vote you lose your right to have an opinion. If you're eligible to vote and don't, shut up and take what you get.

Yes BUT....

Do NOT please vote on issues you  are not informed about. In California for instance we have a  number of propositions on the ballot. It is your responsibility to read both the arguments for and against, see who weights in on either side, and then make an informed vote.

Too many Californians are too lazy to do this and simply vote "no."  It is better to leave those boxes unchecked if you are uninformed or undecided.

Absolutely right -- and not said often enough.

It is your obligation to know the issues and candidates well before casting your vote.

There's another reason many Californians vote NO on everything: the issues delivered by initiative rightfully belong to the legislature for solution.  Most ballot propositions are too complex and convoluted for a full understanding even if you do spend the time to dig into the issues.  The intense advertising campaigns further muddy the waters.  A no vote sometimes just reflects voters exasperation with the subversion of the system by special interests.
