What are you doing with your life?!
« on: January 21, 2008, 03:47:33 AM »

Couldn't find another thread about this (although if there is one, feel free to point me to it).

What's your job?  Or, 'What are your jobs' I think is more relevant, after touching upon this in another thread.

I've enjoyed brief chats with Dan (Magneto), Barry, JJ who must be a graphic designer in his spare time.  I think it's Terry who owns that plush looking studio. He still finds time to be a comedian. What a guy.

So, I thought this might be fun, what do you do? If you're a studio monkey, where can I hear your work?

Me, I'm FoH, journalist, SEO twat and singer and guitarist.

I've some studio experience but nothing to play you of my mixes except my own band.

All of our jobs are to do whatever we can to improve upon humanity.

Music and studios are a sideline.

" Rolling Eyes "

I agree.

Right.  When I'm not feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless, I:

1. Teach audio production as a full-time faculty member.
2. Record all the music I can find for DVD, CD, broadcast and video.
3. Edit all that stuff
4. Play my bass to annoy the neighbors (always and only Beatles -- with some Beach Boys and Bonnie Raitt).
5. Write for magazines (defunct dB, defunct Studio Sound, Pro Audio Review, Tape Op).
6. Research audio topics of interest.

Those are the business related things.  Personal activities are personal!  Smile

On what basis did you conclude that I was a graphic designer?

This is it.  This is what I do.  I live in my mom's basement, posting all day on PSW, and just pretend to make records.  Some day, I might go get a job at McDonald's or something.

They say the heart of Rock & Roll is still beating, which is amazing if you consider all the blow it's done over the years.

"The negative aspects of this business, not only will continue to prevail, but will continue to accelerate in madness. Conditions aren't going to get better, because the economics of rock and roll are getting closer and closer to the economics of Big Business America." - Bill Graham

J.J.,

Here's what was said "JJ who must be a graphic designer in his spare time."

I think that's a compliment.  In addition to being a fine engineer you have a good visual sense as well.  This is obvious through your photography and keen eye for photoshopping.

But I'd still think about that McDonalds job.  The cool thing about McDonalds is that you're never too young or too old to work there!

It seems living in one's mother's basement makes one surly.

At least you raise your speakers to ear-level at mom's house, JJ.
Not like that other guy.

And with all this new soldering, you can add equipment-boffin to the resume.

I'm sincerely interested. Thought it would make a good thread as a follow up to how this one went...

Personally, I've cut the soles off my shoes, I'm sitting in a tree and learning to play the flute!
