When my wife was studying there, she had people try to physically drag her to Sci-Ti shit.

Well, I don't have tits (yet...). Its Hollywood Jake.

Is that his audition for Zoolander or the inspiration?

I'm not laughing because the late L.Ron Hubbard had one of the finest microphone collections on the planet.  Now that he's gone and it is part of the Church of Scientology, none of it will ever be mine.... poop.

Yeah, and I think he had one of the early Fairlight keyboard sampler thingys too.
I used to correspond with him before he died. Even sent him some of my tunes.

The difference tho' is St. Paul had the Gospel and Tom Cruise has a cult.

The difference is not that clear to me.

All of the above mentioned goodies are the TIP OF THE ICEBERG. They have a perfect ( and I MEAN perfect) Mellotron Mk II in the UK St. Hill org. They have more gorgeous audio gear in La Quinta than you could imagine.

Then there's the whole "let's record all of L.R.H.'s writings to vinyl disk and bury them in a time capsule" project that some of you LA guys may know of.

OK, here's the plan.  I have blueprints of the building.  We'll divide into three teams -- analog, digital and microphones.  When we're in the clear, we'll divvy up the goods.

So, meet me tomorrow night at midnight!

Here is a site about the studio. They say they have a handmade George Massenburg console. Anybody know anything about that? The mic collection does look spectacular.

However

Quote:

A large part of what brings that purity and faithfulness of sound is Ron’s discovery -- and he was the first and only to discern the fact -- that sound does not have wavelengths; it simply has vibrations. In consequence, much advanced acoustic design suffers from a generally misunderstood concept of precisely how sound behaves. In contrast, the L. Ron Hubbard studio offers an audio environment that is literally perfect. The studio further offers a “building within a building” design, with each room set on its own “floating” concrete slab, (replete with separate walls and ceiling) to ensure no sound transmission during recording.

I'll bet he was the first to discern that. Also the last. Rolling Eyes

There's been previous discussions regarding Hubbard's studio gear list, here on PSW. The Massenburg consoles were mentioned, together with a guy who actually was asked to start working there as an audio engineer. He got the tour, and his story is tremendously bizarre. (He decided it wasn't a very good place to work)

Allegedly they have their own room at RTI, and bury the discs with turntables and picto-graphic representations of how to use them - this in order for the coming post-nuclear cockroach civilzation to be enlightened. Vinyl rules!

Except his stuff didn't work. I bet the Massenburg console is a monster! The website says there are three in world. Anybody ever seen one? Where are the other two?

Those "wacky monitors" are Infinity IRS series speakers. Probably IRS V. One of the most amazing speaker set-ups I've ever experienced, and experienced is the word, its more than hearing. Those woofer towers will smack you in the chest at eight feet.

The question is what do they do with all this?

Damn! I gotta start me a religion - its good bidness!

One is laying with L.Ron.  The other is in Tom Cruise's bedroom.
