Hydrocodone
« on: January 21, 2008, 05:46:18 PM »

I have to take painkillers when my lower back gets outta whack.

It seems like some freqs freak my eardrum. No matter the loudness. It's really only when I take the Hydrocodone!

Am I crazy? Never mind that... just answer the question!  Rolling Eyes

Immediately check with your pharmacist.  Many doctors don't know all the side-effects a medicine may have.  You certainly want to make sure your hearing isn't being permanently damaged.

I was once prescribed a medicine which I took only to find I was saying "what" an awful lot.  I called my pharmacist and he told me one side-effect was *temporary* (Thank God!) hearing loss.  I quit taking the medicine right at that moment.

I just called the pharmacist and he pretty much gave me a bullshit answer and then ask me what the difference between a composite cable and a component.

Anybody have some facts for me?

many analgesics (including aspirin) are oto-toxic... that is, somewhat destructive to the ear

tinnitus and hearing loss are both fairly common...

also it's not unusual to take a combination drug, Tylenol + Codeine or Aspirin + Codeine.
so it's hard to separate the side effects of the analgesics from the codeine itself.

unless you plan on being on the drugs for a LONG time, you might just ride it out

Damn! Did I happen to mention that I'm addicted as well?  Very Happy

Just kidding and I know that's not a laughing matter.

Not to mention... they really get me constipated and I loves me a good deuce! It gives me a place to You Tube on my iPhone.

And that's really no bullshit.

Thanks William. I do have tinnitus. I had multiple ear surgeries (tubes) when I was young. I have ringing like crazy! I think that's why I don't have the 1k problem! Although, I don't like 3K and I'm not really all that sensitive to 8K and up. Maybe I'm in the wrong business!  Laughing

I dunno, when i was healing after knee surgery i remember a similar problem but can't quite hone in on the specifics.

It's all a little foggy and I remeber passing out on the console during a soft-rock mix one night.

there was a thread on ototoxicity here before

http://recforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/m/284092/7735/?sr ch=ototoxicity#msg_284092

codeine and other narcotics are not ototoxic, but they sure play with your mind

are you crazy?

only you know the answer to that...

are you sure it wasn't the soft-rock that made you pass out?

I'm pretty sure it could have been but no real way to know.
