i think brendan has to take credit for somehow changing bruce's guitar sound, AND not for the better. brendan is a fine player himself, and did wonders on the dan baird solo stuff... BUT "the rising" and "magic" both have that heavy, modern rock guitar tone i just don't dig in this context. Sad

I just hear the Mavis Staples/Ry Cooder "We'll Never Turn Back."

Man, talk about the absolute opposite of most modern recordings.

Live performaces. Real musicians. Mavis-by-god-Staples.

Not hyper compressed. Not autotuned. Not grid-edited.

Amazing music, amazing sound, amazing performances.

Of course, it sold about 2 records which is a shame.

I'm not sure how it was recorded because the pictures from the sessions show lots of mics, but it sounds like a lot of the sounds come from room mics rather than the close mics.

Absolutely-freaking-amazing.

Someone told me, second hand info, that in fact pressure came from Bruce and the label to make it loud loud loud, and then Ludwig did it.
Brendan basically bowed out at that point.

I think one could say the producer SHOULD be responsible, but I don't think that Brendan is the one who ASKED for it to be slammed.

Listened to "Incubus" latest the other day, produced by Brendan O`Brian....doesn´t sound superloud at all. Actually it´s pretty much the opposite, you could almost "feel" the band in your room when listening to it. Very open, wide sound with lots of dynamics, awesome work.  It´s weird that this should be produced by the same person who did Springsteen´s latest... Producers are overrated  Cool  Cool

BTW To me Brendan O`Brian rocks! This guy has done some amazing work so far...
