ITI Audio / NEW Sontec literature from AES
« on: October 07, 2007, 11:20:52 PM »

Figured the following would garner enough interest that it was deserving of its own thread.  I had the pleasure of meeting Burgess Macneal today at AES and found him to be extremely gracious, sharp witted, and very humorous.   I introduced myself to him as "a proud 250EX owner" and his reply was "my sympathies."  It was great getting to talk to one of the inventors of the parametric eq and the creator of one of my favorite boxes in my processing rack.

As most of you know he is back in business and ready to both service and provide parts for older units and to also take orders for new ones.  The following is most of the literature he had available at his table since his web site isn't up yet:

Mind blowing. That's all I can say. Two months ago, there was a chance that one day he *might* start building something and now we have these...

Wow.

Steve.

Thanks for sharing.....

Hopefully Burgess has someone in training to carry on the SONTEC tradition when he decides to retire. Sadly too many young people today live for the NOW and not for the future so he may have problems finding someone.

Thanks a lot!
These news are really exciting for us, as we are looking to get a Sontec for years.
Let's hope that Burgess is able to deliver in a reasonable time...

In case there are concerns that this will be all photocopied brochures and vapourware, I can confirm that I've already received a new edition MEP-250EX.  I'd post photos but there's not much point, the faceplate is identical to the old run versions.

So for 11,800 you get the top model with all bells and whistles, then for another 2,800 (+ 250 for DUO compatibility) you get the full monty unit with both ITI and Sontec EQ?

So it's $14,850 fully tricked out? - or am i misunderstanding the literature?

And there's a ganged version that's stereo linkable? - with motorized pots like the SPL EQ? - anyone know the price for that feature?

Thanks!

I think that sounds about right.  You should just email or call Burgess to clarify the pricing.

The 482D9 has a single set of controls that effects both channels.  This unit can't have different settings for L/R or M/S though.

The MES series all use Shallco switches - no pots.  The MEP250EX has continuously variable pots with a center detent for a band bypass.  Motorized control is not offered.

That feature is not available at any price unless you get a tech to custom design and build it for you.

Can anyone offer an email address for Burgess? I've tried contacting him at the one in the literature without success, plus the website doesn't appear to be up yet.

All help gratefully received, please PM me.
