Shure SM5B uses and experiences
« on: May 05, 2004, 06:19:57 PM »

Greetings, All!
I hope that my profile reflects the desired info, as this is my first post.

I have recently acquired a Shure SM5B, and noticed very little discussion on the web of this dynamic in general.
I enjoy its sound on vox and voiceover, especially through some big transformer pres I own, and was wondering if anyone had any resounding experience with this mic.
I am most interested in different applications, with/without the large foam, and any structural weaknesses this mic may have, as replacement parts are not available through Shure.

Thank you all for your time and knowledge.

Sincerely,
Haroun

Haroun, after a few days of zero response to your valued inquiry on my forum I am so bold and move your post over to Harvey's forum, where maybe more knowledgable responses my be found.

Kind regards and good luck,

I have a 5B, it's a great mic, a bit low in output, so it really
needs a good quiet preamp for a lot of uses, but boy does it sound great.

I use it for vocals, snare, guitars, anywhere a 57 works, a 5B will be killer.

Without the foam you gotta be careful. There are some exposed fine wires you can damage that are critical.

I saw some foam replacements somewhere, MarkerTek maybe?

Hmmm, a good, quiet preamp. Any preamp recomendations, right off the top of your head, Dan?
Very Happy
